can be prepared from MoBr4 by reduction with Mo, H2, or a hydrocarbon; another bromide is MoBr2, which can be prepared by reduction of MoBr4 (13446-56-5); oxybromides are: MoOBr3(13596-04-8) and MoO2Br2 (13595-98-7) [KIR81]
MOLYBDENUM(III) BROMIDE Obtained (75% yield) by heating Mo in a stream of Br2 at 350°C. Separated from by-products by washing in cold, HBr-saturated water.
Black, densely matted crystalline needles, which decompose to Mo3Br6 and Br2 when calcined in the absence of air. Insoluble in water and acids, readily soluble in boiling anhydrous pyridine, forming [MoBr3py3].
