Glyphosate-dimethylammonium is produced by first manufacturing technical-grade glyphosate through the standard industrial route, typically the glycine/IDA-based pathway in which glycine (or its substituted precursor) is phosphonomethylated and then neutralised to yield glyphosate acid. Once the purified acid is available, producers generate the dimethylammonium salt through controlled neutralisation with one molar equivalent of dimethylamine, typically added as an aqueous solution.
