A methanolic hydrogen chloride solution (3M, 20 mL) was slowly added dropwise over 10 minutes to a stirred solution of tert-butyl 1-oxa-8-azaspiro[4.5]decane-8-carboxylate (3.18 g, 13.2 mmol) in methanol (10 mL) at 0 °C. After dropwise addition, the reaction mixture was continued to be stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure to afford 1-oxa-8-azaspiro[4.5]decane hydrochloride (2.29 g, 98% yield) as a white solid. Mass spectrometric analysis (ES+) showed m/z 142 ([M+H]+).
