Benzyltripropylammonium bromide is a surfactant widely used in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, suitable for laboratory research and development as well as chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
Benzyltripropylammonium bromide was prepared as follows: a mixture of 71.5 g (0.5 mol) of tripropylamine and 85.5 g (0.5 mol) of benzyl bromide was boiled in 200 ml of chloroform for 6 h. When the reaction was complete, the solvent was distilled in a rotating membrane evaporator to give 153 g of the white microslit product benzyltripropylammonium bromide.
