Heroin-d3 contains three deuterium atoms on the methyl group. It is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of heroin . Heroin is rapidly metabolized in vivo by deacetylation to 6-monoacetylmorphine and morphine. Heroin is regulated as a Schedule I drug in the United States.
