Indole-3-carbinol is a cell growth inhibitor that reversibly suppresses incorporation of [3H]thymidine in cells. This agent has been reported to induce G1 cell cycle arrest and block the expression of cyclin-dependent kinase 6. Additionally, Indole-3-carbinol displays the ability to inhibit endogenous retinoblastoma protein phosphorylation. Mechanistic studies suggest that in vitro this compound inhibits cell adhesion, migration, and invasion.
