FGIN-1-27 is an indoleacetamide that acts as a high affinity agonist of the 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO; previously called the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor) with a Ki value of 5 nM. It can enhance steroidogenesis of neuroactive steroids such as allopregnanolone . Through this action, FGIN-1-27 indirectly potentiates GABAA receptor signaling to produce anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, and sedative activity in both animal and clinical models.
