Description
Exo1 is a compound which disrupts the functions of the Golgi apparatus by causing a fast collapse of the organelle. It is known that the Golgi functions to package proteins in order to prepare them from secretion. Exo1 can disrupt this function by releasing ARF1 (ADP-ribosylation factor 1) from membranes of the Golgi. In addition, Exo1 can be an essential tool in differentiating between Bars50 and ARF1 fatty acid exchange activity as a result of the lack of interaction between Exo1 and guanine nucleotide exchange factors. Furthermore, Exo1 reduces the traffic of proteins emanating from the endoplasmic reticulum.
