(+)-Cedrol is a sesquiterpene natural product isolated from cedarwood oil extracts of Juniper species trees. As a terpene natural product (+)-Cedrol is a fragrant compound with effects upon animals, and Cedrol (unspecified enantiomer) has been demonstrated to produce autonomic effects, decreasing heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and respiratory rate in humans. The human skin microbial flora Staphylococcus epidermidis is demonstrated to stereospecifically hydroxylate (+)-Cedrol at the C-3 position. In a study concerning antiproliferative effects of essential oils, (+)-Cedrol was identified as one of the terpene compounds showing activity against human renal adenocarcinoma and amelanotic melanoma cell proliferation.
