Carbofuran (2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethylbenzofuran-7-yl methylcarbamate) is a broad-spectrum carbamate insecticide, nematicide, and acaricide. It has been used on a variety of crops, the most common including strawberries, alfalfa, corn, grapes, soybeans, and wheat. Carbofuran is applied to control soil-dwelling and foliar-feeding insects such as corn rootworm, wireworms, boll weevils, mosquitoes, alfalfa weevil, aphids, and white grubs. Carbofuran is highly toxic to birds, fish, and bees.
