Phenacyltriphenylphosphonium bromide is a catalyst for protections and deprotection of alcohols via etherification. It is a reactant involved in investigations of gas-phase pyrolysis, asymmetric hydroxylamine / enone cascade reactions, reductive Michael cyclizations, and microwave-assisted Wittig olefination. It is also a reactant for the synthesis of polyfunctionally substituted heterocycles.
