Diphenyldichloromethane Chemical Properties,Usage,Production

  • Chemical Properties Diphenyldichloromethane is a clear light yellow liquid that is used as a precursor to other organic compounds.It is used in the synthesis of tetraphenylethylene, diphenylmethane imine hydrochloride and benzoic anhydride.
  • Uses α,α-Dichlorodiphenylmethane is a degradation product of of polychloroaromatic insecticides such as Dicofol (D436700) and DDT. It is also used as a catalyst for photodegradation of plastics. It is an important raw material and intermediate used in Organic Synthesis, Pharmaceuticals, Agrochemicals.
  • Preparation Dichlorodiphenylmethane is synthesized by the condensation of benzene with carbon tetrachloride (Friedel-Crafts reaction). Add aluminum trichloride and 2/3 amount of anhydrous carbon tetrachloride into the reaction tank, cool to 10-15°C, add 1/12 amount of benzene for reaction, continue to cool to 5-10°C, add the remaining mixture of carbon tetrachloride and benzene dropwise, add after, react at 10°C for 3h.
