Manganese fluoride Chemical Properties,Usage,Production

  • Chemical Properties Rose-colored, square prisms. Solubility in water 1.06g./100ml. Soluble in dilute hydrofluoric acid, readily soluble in concentrated hydrochloric and nitric acids.
  • Uses Manganese(II) fluoride is used in the manufacture of special kinds of?glass?and?lasers.
  • Preparation Manganese carbonate is added to an excess of 40% hydrofluoric acid solution contained in a platinum or lead dish. The pale-red solution of manganese fluoride is then decanted and dried at 110°C.
  • Safety Profile Poison by subcutaneous route. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of F-. See also MANGANESE COMPOUNDS and FLUORIDES.
