The absolute configuration of (S)-(+)-dihydrokavain (1a) is demonstrated for the first time by total synthesis from a chiral source. Its opposite enantiomer, (R)-(–)-dihydrokavain (1b), was also synthesized after inversion of the chiral center in a Mitsunobu reaction.
