Uses

alpha-[4-[2-(diethylamino)ethoxy]phenyl]-alpha-phenylphenethyl alcohol is used as an intermediate of chlorostilbene citrate.

Synthesis

4-Hydroxybenzophenone can be condensed (etherified) with diethylaminochloroethane under basic conditions to generate 4-(2-(diethylamino)ethoxy)benzophenone. The latter is reacted (addition) with benzyl chloride and magnesium powder, and then hydrolyzed to obtain alpha-[4-[2-(diethylamino)ethoxy]phenyl]-alpha-phenylphenethyl alcohol.
