Pepper (Piper), P. methysticum, ext.

Preparation

The raw medicinal material is pulverized and dynamically extracted with ethanol; the extract is filtered, and a plate condenser is placed in a storage tank; the extract is drawn into a vacuum concentrator to recover ethanol to a certain volume, and the concentrate is filtered to obtain the filtrate; the filtrate is drawn into a vacuum concentrator and concentrated to a thick extract greater than 25 Baume (thermal measurement). A dispersant is added to a mixer, and the thick extract is slowly added while stirring to ensure thorough mixing. The extract is then passed through a 60-mesh sieve to obtain the Pepper (Piper), P. methysticum, ext.

This process is suitable for the production of kava extract containing 30% total kava lactones. The extract content varies depending on the raw material content, resulting in yields ranging from 13% to 23%.

Application

Pepper (Piper), P. methysticum, ext. has become increasingly familiar and popular due to its non-addictive nature, legal sourcing, and recognition by European health authorities as an effective anti-anxiety remedy. In Germany, Pepper (Piper) is available as an over-the-counter anti-anxiety medication; in Sweden, it is classified as a pharmaceutical product; and in the United States, the FDA has approved it as a food supplement. Kava pepper extract preparations for sedation and tranquilization include: Kavacur tablets from Biocur (Germany), Aigin tablets from Hever (Germany), and Kava-Phyton tablets from Merckle (Germany). Preparations for nervous panic, anxiety, and tension include: Cefakava150 film-coated tablets from Cefak (Germany), and Kavatino drops and capsules from Bionorica (Germany).

Description

Piper Methysticum Root is the root of the Kawa-kawa, Piper methysticum, Piperaceae

Composition

1. Lactones The main active ingredients in kava pepper are fat-soluble resins, most of which are α-pyrone derivatives, namely Kavalactones: Methysticin, Dihydrodrizzle Dihydrokawain (DHK), Kawain, Methoxy-Kawain (Yangonin), Dihydromethysticin (DHM), Desmethoxyyangonin (Desmethoxyyangonin) ,5,6-dehydro narcotic capsaicin (5,6-dehyd-tomethysticin), 11-methoxy-demethoxy-noryangonin (11-methyoxy-noryangonin) and the like. There are also p-methoxykawain (P-methoxykawain), sheep high Ning dimer, demethoxy sheep high Ning dimer.
2. Alkaloids and amides were separated from kava to obtain pyrrolidine alkaloids 1-Cinnamoylpyrrolidinel-(m-methoxy-cinnamoyl)-pyrrolidine, etc.
3. Other kava also contain 18 kinds of organic acids .

Biological Functions

Modern research shows that it has sedative, sleep relaxation, weight loss, anti-fatigue and other effects. It can be used as an anesthetic, sweating agent, diuretic, expectorant, and has the effect of treating gonorrhea, syphilis, urethral hemorrhage, chronic cystitis, and rheumatism.

Pharmacology

1. Nervous system effect
(1) Anxiolytic effect Kavalactone can improve the attention, memory and reaction of patients with anxiety disorders, and make the patients in a relaxed state, but its effect is slow.
(3) Local anaesthetic effect Kava extract can cause muscle paralysis, has local anaesthetic effect on experimental frogs, and paralyzes the wings of bats and sparrows. The mechanism of action is similar to lidocaine, acting by blocking potential-dependent sodium channels.
2. Antifungal effect

3. Muscle relaxation effect
Various types of kava piperonones have muscle relaxation effects on various experimental animals, and are more effective than Mephenesin Protection of mice against the convulsant and lethal effects of strychnine.
