Production Methods
The industrial manufacture of dicamba diglycolamine follows the same broad pattern used for other amine salts of phenoxy- and benzoic-acid herbicides: first produce purified dicamba acid, then convert it into the desired amine salt under tightly controlled neutralisation conditions. The upstream steps mirror standard dicamba production, constructing the dimethyl-chlorobenzoic acid core through halogenation and methylation chemistry, followed by carboxylation and purification to yield technical-grade dicamba acid. To form the diglycolamine salt, the acid is dissolved or slurried in a suitable solvent and reacted with diglycolamine at a defined pH and temperature to ensure complete salt formation without excess free amine.
