Description
Pyridine hydrofluoride has a convenient, less volatile form of anhydrous HF with enhanced nucleophilicity.
Chemical Properties
clear pale yellow to light brown liquid
Uses
Pyridinium Poly(hydrogenfluoride) is used in the synthesis of analogues of antimitotic natural product curacin A. It is also an effective fluorinating agent.
Synthesis
?Pyridine hydrofluoride is prepared by condensation of anhydrous Hydrogen Fluoride into Pyridine at -78 °C, followed by gradual warming to rt; caution: highly exothermic.
