Description
Methacrylamidopropyltrimethylammonium chloride(MAPTAC)is a cationic monomer that can undergo radical polymerization to produce various polymers and copolymers. It is used in water treatment, personal care products, adhesives, paper manufacturing, drug delivery systems, antimicrobial coatings, and superabsorbent hydrogels, to impart specific properties, such as charge density, hydrophilicity, or antimicrobial activity. The presence of the quaternary ammonium group confers a positive charge to the monomer allowing its application in multilayer films and polyelectrolyte complexes for rechargeable batteries.
Application
Methacrylamidopropyltrimethylammonium chloride solution can be used:
As a cationic monomer in the synthesis of charge-balanced polyampholytic random copolymers for gel electrolytes in Zinc-air batteries. These polyampholytic copolymers enhance ionic conductivity, stability, and compatibility with the electrochemical system.
As a monomer to prepare double-network ion-gel membranes for efficient CO2/N2 separation. MAPTAC induces mechanical strength in the polymer networks.
To fabricate cationic hydrogel by radical graft copolymerization of MAPTAC and salecan. The highly hydrophilic and cationic nature of MAPTAC makes this hydrogel suitable for anionic drug release and delivery.
