Chemical Properties
dark purple crystalline powder or crystals
Uses
Nickel(II) Tetraphenylporphyrinate is an electron transfer agent and catalyst for aryl halogen exchange reactions. It could be used in cyclizations of saturated ο-iodo ketones and hydrogenation of alkenes.
reaction suitability
reagent type: catalyst
core: nickel
Purification Methods
Purify it by chromatography on neutral (Grade I) alumina, followed by recrystallisation from CH2Cl2/MeOH [Yamashita J Phys Chem 91 3055 1987]. [Beilstein 26 III/IV 1960.]
Precautions
Stable in air and water. Some nickel compounds are known carcinogens, so standard safety precautions apply.
