Synthesis
To a solution of Dimethyl 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate (10.0 g, 51.2 mmol) in MeOH (300 mL) was added KOH (2.89 g, 51.2 mmol) and themixture was stirred overnight at rt. After the removal of the solvent, the residue was diluted with water. Theaqueous layer was washed with AcOEt and acidified with conc. HCl aq, and then the mixture was extracted withthe solution of CHCl3/isopropanol (3/1 (v/v)). The organic layer were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated invacuo to give 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid monomethyl ester (8.17 g, 87 percent) as a white solid.
