Chemical Properties
odourless green to reddish-brown solid
Uses
Eosin B sodium salt is a cell and tissue stain. Eosin B sodium salt is used as a counter stain for collagen, as a tissue stain for cell granules, nuclei, and microorganisms when coupled with Azure A (sc-203729), and as a stain for cell differentiation of the anterior pituitary.
Uses
Dyeing wool, cotton, and paper. In histology as a stain for epithelia, muscular fibers, nuclei, etc.
Definition
ChEBI: An organic sodium salt which is the disodium salt of eosin b diphenol.
Preparation
will 4′,5′-Dibromofluorescein?(C.I. Acid Orange 11, C.I. 45370) nitrification, and translated into sodium salt or ammonium salt.
Biological Activity
Eosin B is a xanthene dye and is also referred to as eosin bluish or erythrosin B. It is used in the Harris stain for Negri bodies. Eosin B is also used in Mayer′s Hemalum as a counterstain for collagen. Eosin B-Azure A are used together for the staining of cell granules, nuclei and microorganisms. It can also be used for protein estimation. The protein - eosin B complex absorbs at wavelength range of 536–544nm and the change in blue shift helps in determining the protein concentration.
Purification Methods
Free it from inorganic halides by repeated crystallisation from butan-1-ol. [Beilstein 19/6 V 469.]
