2,6-Dimethyl-3,5-dicarboxy-4-(2-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine is used as a reactant in the preparation of hydroxyindolecarboxylate and hydroxycarbolinecarboxylate from nifedipine analogous cyanoethyl ester.
