Uses
Oil Red EGN has been used to stain lipid droplets accumulated in cell during adipogenesis.
Preparation
O-Methylaniline diazotization, and 2,5-Dimethylbenzenamine coupling, product to diazotization, and Naphthalen-2-ol coupling.
Biological Activity
Oil Red EGN is widely used to stain small triglyceride droplets. However, it is not advantageous for staining larger droplets.
Properties and Applications
red. Red powder. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, acetone and so on the many kinds of solvent, resistance to 5% of hydrochloric acid and sodium carbonate. In concentrated sulfuric acid to blue light green, dilution after red precipitation; 10% of the sulfuric acid insoluble; In concentrated hydrochloric acid of insoluble; In concentrated nitric acid for brown solution; In 10% sodium hydroxide solution insoluble. Used for fat, oil, wax and oil product color, also used in acrylic resin coloring.
