1,1,2-Trimethylpropylborane

Uses

Readily available monoalkylboranes are useful for the regioselective hydroboration of olefins and dienes; hexylalkylboranes and hexyldialkylboranes are useful intermediates for the synthesis of asymmetric ketones, cyclic ketones, trans-disubstituted olefins, conjugated dienes, and diols.

Preparation

1,1,2-Trimethylpropylborane is most conveniently prepared from Borane-Tetrahydrofuran and 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene in THF (eq 1).
