Uses
Selective reagent for steric control of hydroboration of olefins.
Reactivity Profile
Disiamylborane is a hindered organoborane for chemo- and regioselective hydroboration and chemo- and stereoselective reduction; it can mediate couplings of alkenes and alkynes.
Synthesis
Disiamylborane is generally prepared by the reaction of Diborane with 2-methyl-2-butene in ethereal solvents at 0 °C; alternatively, by substituting borane-1,4-thioxane.
Precautions
It is flammable and very air—and moisture-sensitive. It is generally prepared immediately prior to use. Handle it in a fume hood.
