Description
This glucoalkaloid occurs with pseudojervine in Veratrum viride. The melting
point given above is that obtained in an open tube; in an evacuated tube it is
276-8°C. The base is laevorotatory having [α]
25D - 53.0° (EtOH-CHCI3) and on
hydrolysis with boiling, dilute HCl it furnishes P+)-glucose and Veratramine
(q.v.).
Uses
Veratrosine is a steroidal alkaloid obtained from Veratrum dahuricum which has displayed antitumor and anti-platelet activity, inhibiting the hedgehog pathway in NIH?/3T3 cells
