Description
Calcium bromite has the molecular formula of Ca(BrO2)2 and the molecular weight of 263.8836 g/
mol. It can be prepared by reacting calcium chloride
with sodium bromite:
CaCl2+ NaBrO2→Ca(BrO2)2+ 2NaCl
However, calcium bromite is much less stable than
the sodium analogue so that it is used to prepare the
sodium salt which is used extensively in Industry to
bleach and desize cellulose fabrics like rayon. The
main attractive attribute of calcium bromite is that it
can be isolated as a solid which is relatively stable and can be shipped with little fear of decomposition or
danger of fire.
