Uses
(3R,S)-Oxidosqualene is an impurity in the synthesis of Squalene 2,3:22,23-Dioxide (S683810) which is accumulated intracellularly during the inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis in Chinese hamster ovary cells. (3R,S)-Oxidosqualene is also a precursor to Ginsenosides found in rice. (3R,S)-Oxidosqualene is the substrate for the enzyme Oxidosqualene cyclase.
Definition
ChEBI: A squalene triterpenoid obtained by formal epoxidation across the 2,3 C2C bond of squalene.
Biological Activity
2,3-Oxidosqualene is a substrate of the 2,3-oxidosqualene cyclase lanosterol synthase. 2,3-oxidosqualene cyclase has been shown to be suppressed by a high f at diet and high levels of cholesterol.
