Uses
Prothiocarb Hydrochloride is a fungicide used in the treatment of crops such as potatoes suffering from blight. Pesticide.
Production Methods
Prothiocarb hydrochloride’s commercial manufacture follows the standard thiocarbamate-salt route used across this pesticide class. Industrial producers first generate prothiocarb (the free base thiocarbamate) through reaction of a dialkylamine with carbon disulphide to form the corresponding dithiocarbamate intermediate, followed by alkylation with the appropriate alkyl halide to yield the neutral thiocarbamate ester. This technical grade prothiocarb is then converted to prothiocarb hydrochloride by acid-base salt formation, typically using anhydrous hydrogen chloride or concentrated hydrochloric acid under controlled conditions to produce the stable crystalline hydrochloride salt suitable for formulation.
Mechanism of action
Lipid synthesis inhibitor, involves interference with membrane function. Slowly translocated.
