Chemical Properties
orange yellow powder(s); formed by a reaction between lead nitrate and potassium antimonate solutions, with subsequent crystallization; used in staining glass, crockery, and porcelain [HAW93] [MER06]
Chemical Properties
Lead antimonate (Naples yellow), Pb3(SbO4)2, is an orange-yellow powder that is insoluble in water and dilute acids, but very slightly soluble in hydrochloric acid. They are made by the reaction of lead nitrate and potassium antimonate solutions, followed by concentration and crystallization.
Uses
As pigment in oil painting, staining glass, crockery and porcelain.
Uses
Lead antimonates are modifiers for ferroelectric lead titanates, pigments in oil-base paints, and colorants for glasses and glazes.
