Synthesis
The general procedure for synthesizing 2-(4-methylphenoxy)ethanol from p-toluol and 2-chloroethanol was as follows: referring to Example 2 step a; the experimental operation of Example 1a was repeated using 108 g (1 mol) of p-toluol in place of p-(α,α,γ,γ-tetramethylbutyl)phenol, and mixing with 345 g (2.5 mol) of potassium carbonate powder. All other components, dosages and reaction conditions were kept unchanged, and only the addition rate of 2-chloroethanol was adjusted to 1-2 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, 2-(4-methylphenoxy)ethanol was isolated and the product was a yellow to light brown oily residue. The yield of the crude product was 88-92% and the GC purity was 90-95%.
