Uses
1-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-phenylbenzimidazole is a phosphorescent organic semiconductor. It can be used in devices such as light emitting diodes and organic solar cells, which are based on the electroluminescence of materials that emit light when electrically stimulated. 1-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-phenylbenzimidazole has been shown to exhibit efficient electron and ionic transport properties, both in cyclic voltammetry and in thin film transistors. This compound can be synthesized using tert-butylchloroformate, benzaldehyde, and 4-bromobenzaldehyde in a cyclic reaction with potassium tert-butoxide as the catalyst. The product is purified by recrystallization from acetone.
