Chemical Properties
white solid or crystalline needles
Uses
2-(tert-Butylamino)ethanol is used in the catalytic carbonylation of aliphatic amines to beta-lactams.
Hazard
Moderately toxic by ingestion and skin con-
tact. A severe eye irritant.
Research
A sterically hindered alkanol amine, 2-(tertbutylamino)ethanol (TBAE), was reported to be able to reversibly interact with CO2 in a 1/1 molar ratio exclusively through its ?OH group, producing zwitterionic carbonate species in 30% ethylene glycol (EG) solution of TBAE but not carbamate or bicarbonate that can be produced by the prototypical amines[1].
