physiological cooling sensation on the skin and mucosa. It is used to create
neutral cooling effects in cosmetic or oral care preparations.
The material is prepared by esterification of menthol with lactic acid.
Uses
L-Menthyl Lactate is used in preparation of amides for generating a trigeminal sensory effect.
Application
(-)-Menthyl lactate is a monosodium salt of L-menthol. It is used as a food additive. It is used in the preparation of fruit extract that is used as a mouthwash and toothpaste. The chemical structure of it consists of two molecules: one molecule of L-menthol and one molecule of lactic acid. This chemical compound has been shown to inhibit cavity formation in rats by increasing the pH level and inhibiting the activity of cavity inhibitor molecules like histamine.
