Uses
Apolipoprotein C-III (APOC3), human has been used to determine its effect reconstituted high-density lipoprotein (rHDL) containing apoA-I. It has also been used to test the effects of the exogenous exchangeable apolipoproteins on low-density lipoprotein (LDL) binding to heparin.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Apolipoprotein C-III (apoC-III) is central in regulating the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. It is an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase (LPL). Plasma levels of apoC-III are somewhat correlated to body mass index (BMI) and insulin sensitivity, and strongly correlated to levels of VLDL triglycerides. Reduced levels of apoC-III lead to higher fatty acid uptake of plasma triglycerides into adipose tissue.
