Procedure for the synthesis of 2-chloro-4-(3-nitrophenoxy)thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidine: 2,4-dichlorothieno[3,2-d]pyrimidine (2.9 g, 14.2 mmol) was dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (70 mL), followed by the addition of 3-nitrophenol (1.9 g, 14.2 mmol) and cesium carbonate (9.2 g, 28.4 mmol ). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. After completion of the reaction, distilled water was added to the mixture and the precipitate was collected by filtration under reduced pressure. The precipitate was washed with distilled water and dried under reduced pressure to afford the target compound 2-chloro-4-(3-nitrophenoxy)thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidine (4.0 g, 91.8% yield). The product was characterized by 1H-NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 8.25-8.17 (m, 2H), 8.08 (s, 1H), 7.69-7.66 (m, 2H), 7.57 (d, 1H).
