Chemical Properties
Medium hardness light amber glassy solid resin. No peculiar smell, bitter taste. Soluble in acetone and benzene, insoluble in water and ethanol.
Uses
Resin acids and Rosin acids, hydrogenated, esters with glycerol can be used in the manufacture of various adhesives
Synthesis
Resin acids and Rosin acids, hydrogenated, esters with glycerol is made by hydrogenating rosin under high temperature and high pressure, so that the conjugated double bonds in the rosin are partially or fully hydrogenated into hydrogenated (wood) rosin and esterified with edible grade glycerol, and then refined by steam stripping.
