5,5-dibutyldihydrofuran-2(3H)-one is an almost colorless oily liquid. insoluble in water,
poorly soluble in Propylene glycol, soluble in
alcohol and oils. 4,4-Dibutyl-γ-butyrolactone has an oily, coconut-butter odor and creamy, coconut-like flavor.
Uses
Very rarely used in perfume compositions. Used quite frequently in flavor compositions, mainly for imitation Butter, Coconut,
Nut, etc. Concentration in the finished consumer
product is normally about 3 to 15 ppm. Ice
cream demands a somewhat higher level as
compared to candy.
Preparation
Prod.: (many methods): e. g.: from Butyl
pentanol and Methylacrylate with a catalyst
(Russian patent).
