Amyl cyclopentenone is a colorless or very pale straw-colored liquid.Insoluble in water.
Uses
Amyl cyclopentenone is suggested for use in perfume compositions, primarily in the creation of artificial Jasmin, Jasmin bases, specialties, etc. It can also be used as a floralizer for fragrances other than those of the Jasmin type, mainly in the milder florals, and in a few sharper ones, such as Hyacinth.
Preparation
Amyl cyclopentenone is prepared from Decenoic acid by treatment with Phosphoric acid.
Safety Profile
Moderately toxic by ingestion. Low toxicity by skin contact. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating vapors.
Solubility in organics
Soluble in alcohol, miscible with perfume oils.
