Synthesis
3-Hydroxy-2,4,6-triiodobenzaldehyde, dry pyridine, and a catalytic amount of water were added to a dry reaction flask. The resulting mixture was stirred under reflux for 4 hours. After the reaction was complete, the mixture was concentrated under vacuum, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography. The target product, 3-hydroxy-4-iodobenzaldehyde, was obtained by elution with petroleum ether:ethyl acetate = 4:1 (v/v).

Uses
3-Hydroxy-4-iodobenzaldehyde is a white to grayish-white solid at room temperature and pressure. It is a benzaldehyde derivative and is oxidized by air over a long period of time to produce corresponding benzoic acid compounds. 3-Hydroxy-4-iodobenzaldehyde is commonly used as an intermediate in pharmaceutical chemistry and organic synthesis and can be used to synthesize herbicides and plant growth regulators.
