General Description
Tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum(III)(Alq
3) is a key green-light emitting and electron transport material for OLEDs. A study reports the new crystalline phase d besides its, originally known, three other crystalline phases, α,β,γ. It exhibits excellent chemical stability and high luminescence efficiencies.
Synthesis
A new method for the synthesis of aluminum 8-hydroxyquinolines with a short process, low production cost and low pollution:
First step, add material
According to the molar ratio of 8-hydroxyquinoline:aluminum formate=3:1, the reaction materials were added into 100L ball milling tank alternately, and the total amount of 8-hydroxyquinoline was added 6.438kg, and the total amount of aluminum formate was added 2.395kg. the grinding ball was onyx ball, and the mass ratio of the grinding ball to the material was 15:1, and the mass of the onyx ball was 132.5kg.
Second step, ball milling reaction
The ball milling tank was vacuumed, and after the vacuum degree was less than 0.1 Pa, the pumping was stopped and the ball milling was started; the speed of the ball mill was 150 r/min, and the time of ball milling was 1.5h, and the yellow product was obtained.
The third step, vacuum drying
The yellow product obtained in the second step was placed in a vacuum dryer and dried under vacuum at 50C for 2h, which gave 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum with a purity of 98%. The gas discharged from the vacuum contains formic acid, and formic acid is recovered by condensation method.
