Chemical Properties
White, crystalline powder. Very solu-
ble in water and polar organic solvents; relatively
insoluble in nonpolar organic solvents. Strong acid.
Noncombustible.
Uses
Reactant for Preparation of silicotungstate butylmethylimidazolium bromide ionic liquid hybrid material, Synthesis of SnII-substituted Keggin-type polyoxometalates as photocatalysts, Preparation of silicotungstic acid/organically modified silane proton-conducting membranes3, Preparation of charge transfer compounds with Keggin anions, Preparation of catalyst for catalytic liquid-phase oxidation of xylene
Uses
Catalyst for organic synthesis, minerals separation, reagent for alkaloids.Tungstosilicic acid hydrate is used to prepare ethylacetate and acetic acid from ethylene. It is used in the preparation of silicotungstate butylmethylimidazolium bromide and charge transfer compounds with Keggin anions. It is also used in catalyst preparation, which is useful for catalytic liquid-phase oxidation of xylene. Further, it acts as a mediator in production of hydrogen through electrolysis of water.
Purification Methods
Extract the acid with diethyl ether from a solution acidified with HCl. The diethyl ether is evaporated under vacuum, and the free acid is crystallised twice [Matijevic & Kerker J Phys Chem 62 1271 1958].
