Description
Trimethylgallium is a colorless, transparent and toxic liquid at room temperature and pressure. It is easily oxidized in the air, spontaneously ignites at room temperature, and emits white smoke of metal oxides when burning.
Uses
Trimethylgallium can be used in metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) to prepare semiconductor compounds such as GaAs, AsGaAl, etc. It is a gallium source for the manufacture of electronic components such as light-emitting diodes, and is also used in the manufacture of solar cells.
Synthesis
The reaction of methylmagnesium iodide and gallium trichloride generates trimethyl gallium ether complex, and the complex dissociates to generate Trimethylgallium.
