Description
Metoprolol succinate, is a beta1-selective (cardioselective) adrenoceptor blocking agent, for oral administration, available as extended-release tablets. Metoprolol succinate is FDA-approved to lower blood pressure in people with high blood pressure; decrease chest pain attacks and increase exercise tolerance in people with angina; and reduce the risk of death or hospitalization in those with heart failure.
Chemical Properties
Metoprolol succinate is a white crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 652.8. It is freely soluble in water; soluble in methanol; sparingly soluble in ethanol; slightly soluble in dichloromethane and 2-propanol; practically insoluble in ethyl-acetate, acetone, diethylether and heptane.
Uses
Metoprolol succinate is used to treat hypertension and to control chronic (long-term) chest pain. It's also used to lower the risk for hospitalization and death in people with heart failure.
