Chemical Properties
White crystalline powder, odorless, bitter. Needle-shaped crystals are obtained from acetonitrile, melting point 179-181.5°C. It is freely soluble in glacial acetic acid, soluble in methanol or chloroform, less soluble in ethanol, poorly soluble in acetone and water, and almost insoluble in ether. Acute toxicity LD50 for male and female mice, male and female rats (mg/kg): 2220, 2000, 500, 2100 oral dose; 1600, 1550, >4150, >4150 subcutaneous injection; 300, 305, 340, 340 intraperitoneal injection.
