  To a 25 mL suspension of 2-butanone containing tetrabutylammonium bromide (0.3 g, 1 mmol) and K₂CO₃ (1.6 g, 12 mmol) under stirring, 3-acetylpyrrole (1.1 g, 10 mmol) and methyl bromoethane (11 mmol) were added. The mixture was heated at 60 °C for 12 hours, and then the reaction was cooled to room temperature. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure.

  The residue was absorbed with H₂O/Et₂O (1:1, 50 mL), the organic layer was separated, dried (Na₂SO₄), and evaporated to give 3-acetyl-1-methylpyrrole.;
