Quinacetol was manufactured through a straightforward salt formation step built on the prior synthesis of quinacetol. Commercial producers first generated the quinolinium base by quaternising quinoline with ethylene oxide or ethylene chlorohydrin under controlled conditions, then converting the resulting hydroxyethyl quinolinium intermediate into the acetate (quinacetol).
