Description
Bisabolol, or more formally (-)-alpha-bisabolol, also known as levomenol, is a natural monocyclic sesquiterpene alcohol. Alpha-bisabolol, an unsaturated monocyclic sesquiterpene alcohol, is known as one of the “most-used herbal constituents” worldwide. Various therapeutic and biological properties of α-bisabolol in preventing oxidative stress, inflammatory disorders, infections, neurodegenerative diseases, cancers, and metabolic disorders have been reported. It is a common additive in many PCPs, including dental care products, skin moisturisers, sunscreens, and make-up products, due to its multiple biological activities.

The benefits of Bisabolol (or α-bisabolol) on the skin include soothing, anti-aging, maintaining skin firmness, improving skin pigmentation and moisturising the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Biochem/physiol Actions
α-Bisabolol is active against primary acute leukemia cells, including BCR-ABL(+) acute lymphoblastic leukemias. It is the inhibitor of voltage-dependent Ca(2+) channels in tracheal smooth muscle preparations of rat. It also inhibits human and rat glioma cell growth and survival. It is a potential new therapeutic agent against leishmaniasis.
