Mandestrobin is a novel fungicide having a methoxyacetamid structure. Mandestrobin also shows safer profiles for human health and the environment.

ChEBI:2-{2-[(2,5-dimethylphenoxy)methyl]phenyl}-2-methoxy-N-methylacetamide is a monocarboxylic acid amide obtained by formal condensation of the carboxy group of {2-[(2,5-dimethylphenoxy)methyl]phenyl}(methoxy)acetic acid with the amino group of methylamine. It is a monocarboxylic acid amide and an aromatic ether.

Mandestrobin is produced commercially through a strobilurin-type synthetic route that assembles its methoxyacrylate fungicide framework. Industrial synthesis begins with preparation of a substituted benzyl alcohol intermediate, which is functionalised via etherification to introduce the oxymethyl linkage. In parallel, a methoxyiminoacetic acid derivative is synthesised to provide the characteristic methoxyacrylate moiety. These fragments are then coupled under controlled esterification conditions to yield the final mandestrobin structure.
